Healthy “FIT FOREVER” Tips

  • Always eat breakfast, the most important meal of the day.
  • Eat a balanced meal every 3-4 hours.
  • Don’t starve yourself by going long periods of time without eating. (Many people actually gain weight in this mode)
  • Meals should consist of protein, fiber and carbohydrates.
  • Be active between meals.
  • Drink one half of your body weight in ounces of water daily.
  • Avoid fried foods and limit saturated fats.
  • Don’t eat carbohydrates after 7 pm, and eat nothing past 10 pm.
  • Keep your caloric intake close to 1850 calories a day, for example:

Caloric Breakdown

Breakfast 300

Mid-morning snack 150

Lunch 400

Afternoon snack 150

Dinner 700

Evening snack 150

  • Never, ever give up on your path to health!
  • The real key for each of us is finding proper balance between what we eat and how active we need to be for optimal health. Go ahead and realize that it’s time to change some things that are long overdue concerning your health.
  • There is no time like the present.  NOW is the time to change.

Valentines Day Tip: Think Dark Chocolate

Believe it or not, dark chocolate is good for your heart…okay, I’m not talking about eating the entire box in one sitting! Dark chocolate with 80% cacao has antioxidants that protect the body from aging caused by free radicals, nearly 8 times the number of antioxidants found in strawberries.

Dark Chocolate actually helps keep your heart and cardiovascular system running well.   It is known to reduce blood pressure, and lower cholesterol by up to 10 percent.  It also stimulates endorphin production, which gives a feeling of pleasure; and contains serotonin, which acts as an anti-depressant.

Here are a couple of great options:

Biggest Loser, Biggest Winner

On Saturday I had a great visit with Biggest Loser 2009 Danny Cahill at Chick Fil A in Tulsa. I was impressed by his humility.  He’s inspiring so many people to lose weight the right way, by eating properly and exercising regularly.   Like I always say, it’s just a matter of finding proper balance.  We all have within us the power to change!
