You CAN be fit forever!

I love what I do, because I get to wake up every day and help improve the quality of lives of people in body, mind and spirit!

That’s why I’m so excited about the newest book in my series, FIT FOREVER The Next Step. It is a uniquely designed lifestyle book that focuses on daily consistency in leading a healthy life.

This simplistic book offers three sections:

Be Well opens with 180 daily motivational studies that focus on topics of the ten chapters from the first book Fit Forever, Discovering Your 21st Century Fountain of Youth.

Eat Well shows a healthy approach to eating, including food lists, eating plans and healthy recipes offered by Whole Foods Nutritionist Sharon Stroud.

Live Well is the exercise section that gives illustrated pictures  of weight training exercises for beginners, intermediate and the advanced.

Why did I write this book?

This project is my life’s work.  Leaving a legacy of health is my way of trying to make a difference in the unhealthy world we live in.  I’ve seen the principles that make up this book transform people inside and out.  In spite of the many opportunities to speak to audiences, I’m limited to how many I can reach.  The simple fact is that books will long outlive the span of my lifetime and continue to help people for decades to come.

So many people want to see change take place, but they just don’t know how to do it.  This book gives them the proper tools and motivation to succeed on their journey.

After all, we only have one body for this journey.  Isn’t it time we started taking care of it?

Obstacles or stepping stones? You decide…

My new book, FIT FOREVER The Next Step comes out June 1.  The following excerpt is one of the daily motivations included in the book.

“An obstacle is often a stepping stone if we look a bit closer.”

Obstacles are really a matter of perception.  At a distance we may see an obstacle as some frustrating blockade keeping us from success.  But as we look closer and focus our attention forward, that obstacle may be the very thing needed to move us toward victory.

History doesn’t lie.  It has shown us that many of the greatest people of all time encountered heartbreaking obstacles before they tasted victory. In the end they won because they refused to be defined by their defeats.

A perfect example is Jim Stovall, the person who wrote the forward for this book. Jim has taken the number one challenge in his life – blindness, and found a way to inspire others.

In the midst of his visual obstacles, Jim is founder and president of the Emmy award-winning Narrative Television Network. Although originally designed for those who have difficulty with their vision, over 60% of NTN’s nationwide audience is comprised of fully sighted people who simply enjoy the programming.  He has been a national champion Olympic weightlifter, and is a highly sought after writer and speaker.  Jim is the author of the best-selling book, The Ultimate Gift, which has subsequently been made into a major motion picture with big name stars like James Garner and Abigail Breslin. For his work in making television accessible to our nation’s 13 million blind and visually impaired people, the President’s Committee on Equal Opportunity selected Jim Stovall as the Entrepreneur of the Year in 1997.  He was also chosen as the International Humanitarian of the Year in 2000, joining Jimmy Carter, Nancy Reagan, and Mother Teresa who were also former recipients of this honor. Steve Forbes, president and CEO of Forbes magazine has referred to Jim Stovall as “one of the most extraordinary men of our era.”

I’m with Lou Holtz, the only college football coach to lead six different programs to bowl games and a member of the College Football Hall of Fame, who said, “show me someone who has done something worthwhile, and I’ll show you someone who has overcome adversity.”  I think Jim Stovall has certainly turned his obstacles into stepping-stones.  If Jim can be successful without his sight, the possibilities are endless for those of us with perfect vision.

Determination is the spark to greatness

“It isn’t sufficient just to want; you’ve got to ask yourself what you are going to do to get the things you want.”   Franklin D. Roosevelt

A person’s determination seems to be the dominant ingredient of success… more than education, intelligence, physical attributes, or having a pleasing personality. We must display a powerful need to make a difference, which is not the same as merely making a name for ourselves.

In my early days as a semi-professional pitcher, during a game, my pitching coach came to visit me on the mound and said these words to me, “Don’t you dare pace yourself! When I call on you to do a job, I expect all you’ve got every pitch. All of you, all the time. This ain’t no dress rehearsal. You’ve got this one shot, make it count!” His 90 second kicks in the backside were not eloquent, but effective.

We must remember that we get one chance to live our lives.  Let’s make it count and make a difference in our world.

What are you determined to accomplish that will make a difference?
